RULES FOR PRONUNCIATION
OF SPANISH WORDS
- Words that end in a vowel or the letters n & s are vocally stressed on the next- to-last syllable.
EXAMPLES: MERCADO, MAPA, CLASE, LIBROS
- Words that end in consonants, except n & s, are vocally stressed on the last syllable.
EXAMPLES: BORRADOR, MUJER,
PARED, RELOJ
- Words that do not follow rules one and two must have a written accent on the vocally stressed syllable.
EXAMPLES: BOLÍGRAFO, MARRÓN, TÍMIDO, LÁPICES
